Zambia Orphans of Aids US (ZOA-US) is a private voluntary organization incorporated in August 2000 in Washington, D.C. It was founded by a group of individuals with a strong interest in addressing the effects of AIDS/HIV in the central African nation of Zambia, which has been harshly affected by the global pandemic. ZOA US is registered as a charitable organization whose contributions are exempt from tax in the United states under article 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. The organization will be primarily responsible for: approving strategies and specific project proposals and reports on the implementation of these strategies by ZOA Z; fundraising; awareness-raising in the US; networking with funding agencies in the US; and information-sharing on HIV/AIDS prevention and management.
Board of Directors
Zambia Orphans of AIDS US has a Board of Directors comprising twelve members (listed below). All work is carried out on a voluntary basis. Each Board member has a functional responsibility: the four operational sub-committees - Finance, Development and Fundraising, Projects, and Publicity and Membership are headed by Board members with a team of four/five from the general ZOA membership.

Executive Committee
An Executive Committee undertakes the responsibilities of a secretariat. The three principal officers sit on this committee as do the Board members heading the sub-committees. This committee meets regularly to update members on the progress in each sub-committee and to plan any activities. Each sub-committee coordinator meets regularly with her/his team to map out how to carry out the designated activities.
Membership
Zambia Orphans of AIDS draws its membership from the Zambian community and other Africans in the Washington D.C. area. But a significant number also comes from Americans who have lived and worked in Zambia, while others have a commitment to supporting Africans particularly its orphans.
